The term "scalar wave" is actually used in several places in various kinds of electrodynamics, and even with differing meanings.

I originally meant it to refer to the "internal longitudinal EM bidirectional waves" that comprise any and all normal EM fields, potentials, and waves via superpotential theory (started by Whittaker in 1904 with his paper showing that any EM field or wave can be decomposed into differential functions of two scalar potentials). Of course his earlier paper in 1903 showed that any scalar potential can be decomposed into a harmonic set of bidirectional EM longitudinal waves. So combining the two gave (1) the "scalar" interferometry of those two potentials used as the basis for the two derivative functions, and (2) accented the "internal longitudinal EM wave dynamics" that is inside, and comprises, any and all "ordinary" EM fields, potentials, and waves. So I just used the term "scalar" to try to get all that in there.

There is even finally a good solid paper on scalar interferometry, proving it can indeed form any EM field or wave, etc. at a distance in the interference zone. The paper is M.W. Evans, P. K. Anastasovski, T. E. Bearden et al., "On Whittaker's Representation of the Electromagnetic Entity in Vacuo, Part V: The Production of Transverse Fields and Energy by Scalar Interferometry," Journal of New Energy, 4(3), Special Issue, Winter 1999, p. 76-78.

That issue of the journal also contains five other papers dealing with Whittaker's work along those lines.

About three years ago, I finally tried to come to grips with quantum field theory, which is more accurate than conventional electrodynamics.

In QFT there are four polarizations of the photon (and hence the EM wave). The first two, in x- and y-, are the familiar transverse polarization, with the energy "vibrating laterally" compared to the line of motion of the wavefront, which is conventionally taken along the z- axis.

The third polarization is along the line of motion (along z), and is rather like an accordion wave.

The energy "bunches" and "thins" along the line of motion. That is called a "longitudinal" polarization.

Then the fourth polarization is odd, because it is along the time-axis. I.e., in ict, where the only variable is c. so the EM energy is on that axis and vibrating as "time-density variation", existing as "time" (time is just spatial EM energy compressed by the factor c-squared). That is called a "time-polarized" photon, or scalar photon, as the standard QFT terminology.

The "scalar" just refers to the fact there is no polarization vector in 3-space, so with respect to 3-space it is a "scalar" entity, even though it is dynamic and vectorial along the ict axis.

Neither the longitudinal photon nor the scalar photon is individually observable.

However, an interesting thing occurs in the presence of charge.

The combination of a scalar photon and a longitudinal photon is observable as the instantaneous scalar potential!

In terms of waves, that means that we must slightly correct Whittaker's phase conjugate pair of longitudinal EM waves. The pair is actually a combined time-polarized EM wave perfectly associated with a longitudinally polarized EM wave. So his 1903 decomposition is slightly corrected to a harmonic series of scalar waves (QFT terminology now) and longitudinal waves, perfectly paired with the harmonic series consisting of those pairs.

This has profound implications in physics.

In solving the long-vexing source charge problem (and its associated fields and potentials and their energy), one realizes that EM energy does not "propagate" continuously in space (at least in the QFT approach). Instead, at any point in space there is a slight separation of the virtual charges of the vacuum (well-known), so that EM energy enters that point in 3-space from the time-axis, being absorbed by the negative charge. It then passes to the positive charge, where it re-exits back to the time-axis. So what "propagates" through three space as time passes, is this "4-space circulation" of EM energy from time-axis to negative charge to positive charge back to the time-axis. That's in a forward-time situation.

In a time-reversed situation, the circulation is opposite.

So what has changed is the fundamental notion of the propagation of EM energy through 3-space.

Shouldn't be too surprising; nothing can move in 3-space anyway, but only in 4-space. Without the passage of some time, nothing moves.

The problem is that several hundred years ago they began substituting effect for cause in much of physics, and haven't gone back and corrected it. There is no such thing, e.g., as a separate force acting on a separate mass in 3-space. Mechanics is still quite wrong in that respect. Mass is a component of force, not separate from it, as easily shown by F => d/dt(mv). Both terms of the expansion contain mass as a component. The substitution of effect for cause is particularly endemic in electrodynamics, as we point out in the new book, Energy from the Vacuum: Concepts and Principles, Cheniere Press, Santa Barbara, CA, 2002 (977 pages), available from my website www.cheniere.org.

Some 10 nations now have the original scalar interferometer weapons, and even the Japanese Yakuza and Aum Shinrikyo have them, having leased the earlier ones on site in Russia in 1989.

The weather over North America is still being fiercely engineered, but mostly now by those Yakuza/Aum Shinrikyo crews. The weather engineering is also being fiercely fought. TWA-800, e.g., was a shootdown by the rogue Japanese teams.

Five nations also now have the quantum potential weapons, which are the most powerful weapons on earth. China deployed QP weapons earlier this year, along with negative energy EMP weapons (the second most fearsome weapons on earth).

Lots more nations are working on these things or will be, since just about every major weapons lab on earth has now discovered longitudinal EM waves and LW interferometry (even discounting the associated time-polarized EM waves).

So it's still a mess, and anything can happen. Sadly, we waited while hostile nations inserted terrorists and special forces teams into our country, along with weapons of mass destruction such as anthrax, smallpox, bubonic plague, etc. including nuclear weapons. The Soviets inserted nuclear weapons into the U.S. cities, etc. along with the Spetznaz teams to detonate them on call, before the economic collapse of the Soviet empire. Those teams and weapons are still here, waiting for the word from the KGB (in its new name, but still the same old leopards with spots).

Read Lunev's book; he specifically tells some of the ways that the Soviets brought in the nuclear weapons. And these weapons are equivalent to those we dropped on Japan in WW II. The Yakuza/Aum Shinrikyo also took the LW/scalar interferometry technology back to Japan with them secretly, and have now produced their own weapons, including some portable ones to sneak into the U.S.

We are in a new kind of war, unfortunately, euphemistically known as "asymmetric" warfare, where the target is mainly the populace.

In the new "asymmetric" war, the first phase is accomplished in so-called "peacetime", which is the insertion of the weapons of mass destruction to the distant targets, along with the teams to unleash them. Today, that is the first phase of any great strategic attack or any new world war.

Unfortunately, the first phase of WW III has already been accomplished, because more than 20,000 (more like 40,000) terrorists and special forces types have been inserted, as well as the WMD having been inserted.

Sadly, 9/11 was just the beginning, and we are going to lose more casualties in this new perpetual war, than we have previously lost in all our wars combined. And even more sadly, most are going to be our civilians -- women and children, babies, etc. The noncombatants, who now are the main target in this vicious kind of war. We shall have to learn to live in perpetual conflict and perpetual war. As VP Dick Cheney said so poignantly, "The war on terrorism will not be over in our lifetime. It is different than the Gulf War was in the sense that it may never end. At least not in our lifetime. The way I think of it is, it's a new normalcy." [Vice President Dick Cheney, October 21, 2001].

Lots could be done to reduce our losses, if the U.S. scientific community realized it is the first line of defense, and it has failed us badly.

In energy, e.g., the entire monstrous centralized energy infrastructure is deadly vulnerable, and can easily be laid in the dust with minimum assets, paralyzing the economy of the U.S. As an example: 20% of the domestic oil the U.S. produces passes through a single above-ground pipeline in Alaska, some 800 or so miles long. Take 10 commando types, with C-4 packages, duct tape, and timers. Cut that beast in 10 different places on the same night, and in addition to a horrendous environmental disaster, that thing will hardly ever get back to functioning again any time soon. Scratch 20% of our domestic oil in a single strike, with very cheap assets and minimal risk. All the pipelines (oil and gas) crossing the U.S. are also deadly vulnerable to similar simple assets. Piece of cake.

Want to get in nuclear weapons, say 100? Ship them in the standard containers, one each, from 100 different separated places around the world. Only about 2% of the containers are ever inspected anywhere. So maybe you will lose two of the weapons by interception. The other 98 will almost certainly be delivered by the U.S. trucking industry right to the waiting hands of the terrorist teams waiting on them in the U.S. Those are only samplings.

Everywhere one looks, we are deadly vulnerable, and particularly in our energy infrastructure --- pipelines, dams, high voltage power transmission lines on towers for hundreds of miles, substations by the side of the road (C4 package and timer, toss it in there at 2:00 a.m., and when it blows up three hours later, the terrorists are long departed).

Refineries are also deadly vulnerable. Nuclear power plants: Any number of nations can easily build (and have built) small EMP "shooters" that can be fired by one or two men, operating in an SUV, with the batteries in the SUV for the power for several shots. Knock out the electronic controls for an online nuclear powerplant, and you now have a good probability of core meltdown because it is out of control. If meltdown occurs, it will make Chernobyl look like a picnic. It goes on, but that should build enough of a picture.

Eventually, the only way we will economically survive is if we develop energy systems producing the EM energy directly from the local vacuum. All power systems do that already, but the broken symmetry of opposite charges (such as on the ends of a dipole) has not made it across the university campus from the physics department to the electrical engineering department in the 45 years since Wu and colleagues experimentally proved the broken symmetry of opposite charges (and thus indirectly that all EM energy comes from the vacuum, via the broken symmetry of the source charge).

The EE model does not even include the active vacuum and its energetic exchange with the charge, let alone a broken symmetry in that exchange. So there is not now and there never has been a single electrical engineering department, professor, or textbook that even knows and teaches what actually powers an EM circuit. Neither has our National Academy of Sciences recognized it, nor our National Science Foundation, the universities, the National Labs, etc. Even though it's been proven for nearly half a century now.

In the common EM model and EE, the model implicitly assumes that every charge freely creates energy from nothing at all, and pours it out in all directions continuously. In short, all our engineers are implicitly taught that the source charge is a perpetual motion machine, freely creating energy. The charge does indeed pour out real EM energy continuously in all directions at light speed, establishing and replenishing its associated fields and potentials and their energy, spreading out across the universe at light speed. But it gets the energy from the vacuum, absorbing it in virtual photon form and then coherently integrating it into real observable photons, and re-emitting them in all directions. That has been proven since 1957, and is one of the broken symmetries for which Lee and Yang received the Nobel Prize the same year, 1957.

So in a most humorous turn of events, the very dogmatists who so castigate legitimate COP>1.0 EM energy system researchers as "perpetual motion nuts", are themselves unwittingly the greatest perpetual motion advocates in human history.

Just ask them about the source charge problem, and how to explain it without destroying the conservation of energy law.

Most will just get red-faced and angry. Very, very few will have read particle physics and quantum field theory and will realize that the "isolated" charge taken with its clustering virtual charges of opposite sign is a dipolarity and thus exhibits the broken symmetry of opposite charges. Their model does not even have that in there, and they really do not have any inkling of what powers every EM circuit ever built, and always will: Energy from the vacuum.

Best wishes,

 Tom ,

Can you take a quick look at (especially) JV's exposition on hydro wave and whether it could be included in the Bearden type longitudinal wave zone? I think yes because of the plasma and other factors this is not merely "longitdinalizing" of an ordinary EM wave.
