The outrage in the article and the comments focus on the police (ok psycho criminals). But where is the outrage for the people who are actually to blame. I'm not talking about the morons in the city government who hired the scum in blue, I am talking about the s*** for brains a******s who elected the morons who hired the scum in blue. At some point the blame has to be put on the voters. If you want good government you have to elect good people. And sometimes that means you have to run for office. If the voters won't elect good people then the garbage government that we have is the voters' fault.

Thanks for this "wonderful" article, Will. I've always wondered why people consider the police their friend.

Around 1980, the Coshocton, Ohio PD was disbanded because the city could no longer sustain the lawsuits. It's been a long time, and I'm going by memory, but two cases that seem to have broke the back of the proverbial camel were (1) the police beating of a man on his way home from receiving an award from a civic organization and (2) a cop beating up his wife in the police locker room while several other cops watched and cheered him on.

The city ditched the PD. The Sheriff hired the good cops. As far as I know the PD has not been reconstituted.

This whole American caste system is confusing at times.

I've seen stubborn cows in a barn refusing to get up and leave being persuaded by a swift boot kick and a strong tug on a halter, the cow was the farmers property though.

It seems pretty clear, people are property, only it's not put that way.

Excellent article.

I hear that the city council is getting a lot of heat over their disbanding their government.

I live in a small town in New Hampshire, next to other small towns, and we prefer having as little government as possible. Next door in Grafton theres one full time cop, the police chief, and a couple part timers. They eliminated building permits and instead require "building notices" i.e. property owners dont have to get permission to build, but they do have to notify the town they are building.

I'm looking forward to seeing what becomes of Maywood. Will it become the Somalia of California, or the Fort Collins?
