This fellow is constantly trotted out as an example of someone who'll "show 'em". Exactly what he'll do to them, or YOU, is evident. It always reminds me that those in power will always seek a means to stay or acrue further power.... at YOUR expense.

Will, I listened to your dialogue with Chris Arzen and you were every bit as pithy in your brief oratory as you are in your lengthy writing. Great stuff! I enjoyed it and hope to hear some more in the future.

I agree completely. I used to think in the mid-90s when Arpaio was frequently "showcased" on a tube documentary of one sort or the other that he was an upstanding man who was simply not playing "pattycakes" with thugs like so much of the justice system does these days.

But alas, he's one of the tentacles, a "fat" one at that, of Leviathan. I guess I should of read the tea leaves.

However, on the matter of the deceased victims of his ruthless deputies, yes I agree with your description and portrayal of them. However, on the other hand, I don't particularly look much more kindly upon the new-found familial millionaires of the victims who've suposedly experienced the Maricopa gulag, administered by Arpaio and his fellow underlings, and never lived to tell about it. It's funny how those family wails of injustice and despair vanish and they suddenly become content once they're frolicking in the green pastures. I guess the bread enables ‘em to conveniently forget their deceased relative.

One of the Arpaio’s jailbird victims you mentioned hit home somewhat. As a soon to be 42 year old, 17 years running, Type I haphazardly controlled diabetic, I can certainly see myself standing in Ms. Braillard’s shoes :P. I long ago stopped trying to regiment my life to fit within the prescribed pattern that supposedly helps to keep your glucose levels within tolerable ranges all the time. My life wasn’t and still isn’t static, so it just didn’t work for me as some days I’m working in an office, on other days I’m slaving outside. When I first was diagnosed in 1990, after leaving the AF, I was in a hurry to be employed to pay ongoing bills so I packaged scallops in a seafood house, then worked in a warehouse loading and off-loading freight. It was hell to keep sugar levels in control. You can’t force others to frame their schedule around you, you have to frame your schedule around theirs, especially in regards to an employer.

From that time onwards, I’ve been up and down continually and just deal. I trust that God will carry me through the trials and he is doing just that. Folk will sometimes look at me like I’m insane when I tell them I haven’t been to a doctor in years (I just get my insulin, syringes, test sticks, and such). Thus, this business about folk having all these health issues and going to the doctor frequently because they “feel bad” is incomprehensible to me and consequently draws little if any sympathy from me.

But again, as you also mention, her family too is making a killin’ off her demise. Instead of desiring to collect an early retirement on the beach, why don’t these families rage against the machine in Maricopa county? Why don’t they try to get Arpaio yanked out of office by any legally sanctioned means possible, instead of merely collecting their punitive tort damages and then slithering away into the darkness? On second thought, maybe these folk want Arpaio to remain where he is because, perhaps, from the looks of things, the longer he stays in office many folk see $$$ opportunities for them if one of their relatives meets an untimely ugly demise.

Will, it’s an ugly world we live in. I hate to sound like a “broken record” but sometimes it takes repeating to drill the reality home. From this culture and from the myriad folk who constitute this culture come these thugs. Why should we expect these government weenies to be holier and more upstanding than the average commoner? Sigh, we shouldn’t. The more “thuggish” the overall populace becomes, the more “thuggish” will also the "Philip Drus" be by default.
