Rita Hutchens has been wronged. I don't know anything about Mr. Greenbank's personal life, but what he did to Rita Hutchens is objectively evil, and this matter can't be put to rest until she is given redress, and Greenbank is held to account. The is true of Scott Campbell, who instigated the retaliatory campaign against Hutchens, and Teresa Heberer, who assaulted her and illegally arrested her.

The only thing that prevents this situation from being resolved is the intransigence of the corrupt people who created it.

Mr. Wilcox, I appreciate your kindness, and your concern. I am outraged over the treatment Rita Hutchens has endured -- what honest and decent person wouldn't be? -- and it's not an exaggeration to say that the behavior of both Greenbank and Scott Campbell.

Since publishing the last piece about this case, I've published three lengthy essays about other subjects here at Pro Libertate, and several others elsewhere. This suggests that my abiding interest in the Hutchens case doesn't amount to an obsession.

On the other hand, Greenbank spent the better part of a year -- and a great deal of money extracted from Idaho taxpayers -- in pursuing a patently phony battery charge against a helpless and inoffensive woman. Could this not be characterized as an obsession -- and one that was both vicious and destructive?

Once again, I appreciate your concern, but don't be troubled about this matter. Among the sources of stress and frustration that afflict me, the Hutchens case makes a very modest contribution.

Your articles are interesting, and thought-provoking, however, I'm concerned the effects this obsession (pardon the expression) could have on your health. Maybe it's time to possibly move on? I'm only saying this because it seems the focus on Greenbank seems quite personal. The judges are just as guilty as the prosecutors. When the judges observe this happening in their courts they should nail and jail the prosecutors. This is especially true when a prosecutor makes the statement "adequately punished" and he drops the charge.

The USA "injustice' system goes out of its way to wrongfully incriminate and persecute people. Several days ago I read about police confiscation of property of innocent persons who have no recourse for recovery of their property when the cause of their persecution is proven false.

This can only be turned around when 51% of the population is wrongly convicted,in jail, and therefore have the majority to have the system fixed.

After only 4 short years as a criminal defense attorney in Virginia, I can attest incidents such as this are the rule, not the exception. There is no justice in the criminal system, you have no Constitutional rights, and presumption of innocence is a spectre too weak to materialize except sporadically for juries.

Many prosecutors hide evidence and are only interested in convictions, court costs, and clearing their dockets. I have had the good fortune to know a handful of truly exceptional prosecutors and police officers, but they are too few in number to make a real difference.

After 4 years believing I was tilting at windmills, I realized I am not Don Quixote, I am a cog in the windmill itself. So I am walking away from my law practice.

Mr. Grigg, you have been instrumental in my awakening. I remember stumbling upon an article by you on LRC and then reading everything of yours in the archive. The stories you reported mirrored my experiences and painfully made me aware of what little difference I could make inside the machine.

I once set off to write a short piece (not very well though!), with a mother boasting to her neighbour about her son's ever so important job and how good he looked in the smart uniform.

The uniform in my piece had double lightening bolts on the collar, but the concepts, behaviors, actions, outcomes and self justifications involved are present wherever and whenever people in costumes claim special privilege over others.

It's quite apparent that Greenbank is a pathologic personality. Such people do not stop their abusive conduct voluntarily. They must be stopped by external actions. Unless and until somebody acts to end this bureaucratic asshats reign of abuse it will continue
