One of my buddy's recently got into some trouble at a bar and the short story is he was arrested on assault charges which are ridiculous we were there and watched as a random guy came up to him punched him in the face and began repeatedly beating him. He stood up to defend himself and in the crossfire the wasted dude fell and banged his head on the kerb. The cops show up and don't want to hear us and arrest him.
It all got cleared up in the end but had that have gone to court and my friend had to have paid court bonds could he have claimed them back or even sued the police force for wrongful arrest? Also where would be the best place for getting bonded?

Zachary is correct, if one is a pedestrian, in states that require one to identify oneself to a cop, all you need to do is give them your name, not show some state-approved form of ID. Of course, why this doesn't also hold for a driver is interesting. If the state requires one to hold a driver's license to drive on public highways (ask yourself: why should the state do this? After all, they don't require a license to ride a horse), why can't they then require a license to walk on public sidewalks? I predict that eventually they will try this tactic.

Saw the video. Seems the guy wanted simply to know why he was being asked to produce ID, questioned them whether he was blocking any traffic, and wouldn't submit because all he was getting in return was that they were doing an "investigation". How much more vague can a cop get with questions like that. Besides, I'm sick and tired of handing over ID everytime some yokel, cop or not, says they want it. By that very definition you're already guilty until "proven" innocent.

If you are not driving, I thought you just have to give the officer your name in most states, not an ID. I was with someone in Colorado a few years ago and they were openly carrying a sidearm, for which no permit is necessary, only for concealment. An officer came up and asked for id, and my friend said "no." The officer was taken aback but then asked for his name and my friend complied. He said that was the way it worked, id only required when driving.

Hey Will, an idea just popped in me just to demonstrate how apathetic and complacent the commoners REALLY are why don't we organize a "Million Libertarian March" or a "Million Constitutionalist March" and see what the turnout would be compared to, say, the "Million Man March" or "Million Mom March" (which demonstrated how fascist-minded many women REALLY are) were.

Hahahahaa!!! I'd bet everything I own it'd be miniscule by comparison. I'd assert that there ain't a scant million genuine libertarians (not libertines!) or genuine constitutionalists in the whole damn country.

Anyway, Venezuela's commoners (and their legislature and judicial branches of government) remind me much about our own respectively. They're only NOW becoming alarmed and think Chavez is becoming a dictator. He was already long ruling by decree and the legislature and judiciary are merely ornamental branches of their government tree.

They wanted "socialism or death" and they got what they wanted, socialism. I guess they were ignorant of the fact that "socialism" is but "communism lite" or Trotsky's version rather than Stalin's. The Fourth International version.

Our commoners may only get riled up about what's happening long after it's way too late to reverse the course. It may already be too late, for that matter. And the irony, as well as the tragedy of it, would be that the people cried out and voted for it! Just like the Germans managed in 1933 and Venezuelans accomplished in 1998. Could America be far behind? No.

Oh, and I'll say again that the Lizard Queen will be the next Prez, if Bush doesn't manage to put his latest executive order into action via "natural and manmade disasters" by January 20, 2009. That's a lot of time left for utilizing his own "enabling act."

Anyway, back to Hillary, she's already stated recently that we need a "shared prosperity" society rather than an "on your own" variety.
