I was abused badly in the dark, in Steamboat!
Officer abused me, blackened my arm, hurt my knee, and busted my lips.
I was coming home from work, and hadn't been drinking.
He pulled me over into a dark place , in winter on side of a road.
He had a record of abuse, and was let go in California for abuse!!
He then went to Craig, where he pulled over a teen-ager on a bike, put
on his leather, powdered gloves, beat him unconcious, and into a coma.
I think family sued City.
There is a lot more to these stories , but got deleted, when I published this for some reason.
Yes there are bad people who the officers have to protect themselves from, as I was married to a policeman, but..... abuse is a lot different!!

No matter what job you go to, there is always 1 "Bad Apple", but when this person is someone you hired to "Serve and Protect" the public, and there are many instances of abuse on their record, you need to investigate, and maybe dismiss to "Protect" the public from them !
Twenty years ago I was pulled over on my way home after work late at night , after late Shuttle Driving.
The road down the hill towards the pool was solid ice! My car was slidding a little, as I was tapping the brake to slow the car, a safe controlled measure. I saw a police car turn its lights on, and kept pushing me over, and telling me to move forward into a dark area with little light.
The officer got out of the car YELLING AT ME TO TURN OFF THE CAR!! I was putting it in park when he reached into my rolled down window, and grabbed my gear shift on the steering wheel yanking it out of my hand! He scared me to death!!
He then told me to get out of the car, as he opened the door.( This was in the street, as the snowplows had piled up a huge burm of snow even into the road).
I told him I could not walk around the car, as I had cowboy boots on with no tread, and I would fall down, but he just kept yelling " Come here!!", I really was afraid of him now, so I edged myself around the front of the car sliding on the ice.
He said" How much did you drink", and I said "Nothing", " I just got off of work". He proceeded to give me road-side tests. He had me walk on TOP OF THE SNOW BURM IN A STRAIGHT LINE? I fell numerous times! I sunk into the snow." I was freezing now, as I had removed my coat before I got in to drive home in the warmed car.
He then told me to follow him as he drug me back to his car. He made me put my hands behind me,then hand-cuffed me. He opened the back door of his patrol car, then shoved me forward, I couldn't stop the fall so my knee and my arm hit the door jam!
My knee was killing me from the force that he shoved me and my arm.
I didn't say a word as we got to the station downtown, as I was terrified of this man!! He pulled me out of his car , shoved me infront of him, then opened the locked door, and shoved me into the Breathalizer machine with such force the officer in the other room came running out! He said" Are you o.k.?" to me. I didn't speak, to afraid of the terrible officer now behind me. He shoved the plastic tube into my mouth busting my lips open, now bleeding everywhere. He could get no reading, so he hit the machine hard!! It jumped, but not enough. He them brought me into the other cell room for holding, and left.
The officer there was very concerned, and helped me with bleeding, and looked disgusted at what the officer did. They let me go after about 1 hour to a fellow worker to drive me home.(Car was impounded!)
I had a swollen knee for about 1 week, a blackened forearm, and 2 busted lips for about 2 weeks!!! All this abuse!
I had to go to court, judge said" Why are you here you have nothing on the Breathalizer??", the District Attorney , then said" Our officers don't make mistakes".
I was sent to alcohol school(Instructor could not believe this, and was leading me to get a lawer).
I did get a lawyer, he got me off of all charges, made the policeman look like an idiot!!
Here is the payoff: The lawyer found out that this officer was released from California for ABUSIVE BEHAVIOR TOWARDS VICTIMS!! Steamboat didn't check his background, or didn't care. He finally was released( due to other incidences?). and I heard he joined the Craig force, where he pulled over a teen-ager 1 night on a bike and beat him so bad, with the powdered lead gloves, that it put him unconcious, and in a coma!! I thanked the Lord, as I could have been a lot worse!!(The officer was released again from this force now)
I do not know if the family sued the city.
Soooooooo, yes there are bad and good everywhere, but unecessary force is WRONG!

There is no such thing as a good cop. Not unless his name is Frank Serpico, or he works in a police department that resembles the one from the Andy Griffith Show (hell, even Barney Fife was corrupt in his love of power...that's why he was only allowed 1 bullet). The very first time a "good" cop sees a "bad" cop break the law and does nothing about it, he becomes a "bad" cop. I use the quotes here, because the assignation of "good" and "bad" with cops is completely arbitrary.

People wonder why no other branch of government steps in and files criminal charges against such criminals in government. The answer is clear, it's one big criminal operation or Justice would be seen, it's not.
The point of this post is about the picture of the cops on the bus. That picture is likely a picture of cops in training. If it is, it shows how cops are trained, citizens are to submit to them in fear, hands high and heads looking down and lowered in total submission. Where if the cops kill someone, no one sees that killing, no witnesses. Look at the child at school in a story on this blog a month or so ago, that child was criminally charged for telling her classmates to record/video an interaction between a cop and another student. Cops hate being recorded, the killing of Jack Yantis, comes to mind. This bus picture should be the poster child of posters to make the point that cops are trained to be the, masters of citizens and have and will likely use deadly force for those Subjects that do not submit. A picture has a thousand words, in the bus picture that old statement comes alive with hard hitting truth.

Great piece as always Mr Grigg. We were having a debate recently which perhaps you could settle, as to whether policing in the US is communist or fascist. I argued for communist since the customer of policing has been completely stripped of his normal consumer power, his freedom to choose one service or another. Under fascism there is still at least a functioning market in goods and services albeit under dictatorial control.

if Kleiber is truthful, then it seems that, while the tattoo may be incongruous when worn by a u. s. marine, it is very congruous when worn by one demonstrating the mindset and actions of rae (small letter intended).

after reading your piece, it is my opinion that the tattoo is significant and demonstrates what that odious man truly believes in.
