Being a sheepdog, IMO, doesn't mean you work for the government. If people would take responsibility for their own safety by arming themselves there would be one more thing we wouldn't need the state for.

The trouble is people want to sit back and wait for an officially sanctioned government "servant" to do things that they should just do themselves. This guy seems seriously misdirected and I would quickly find membership at a different church, if I heard anything mildly resembling this at my church.

Well before I was ever aware that there was any option other than Republican (American) or Democrat (Communist) I served seven years on active duty as a Marine M.P. and for some time I was quite proud of my service. Now, however, I'm embarrassed when it is brought up. Not because I'm ashamed of anything I've done but because Republicans always assume I'm one of them. I now consider myself, to borrow Heinlein's term, a Rational Anarchist.

We are living in 1930's Nazi Germany! I walked out on 'American Sniper'. The guy was an arrogant a-hole. His perception of himself was skewed to say the least. Shooting a lot of people at relatively close ranges in a target rich environment does not mean your opinion matters more then mine. Nor do I need you to defend me. Sheep can be victimized by self-proclaimed 'sheepdogs' just as easily as by 'wolves'. Number 1: Jesus was not speaking to believers today in the “red letters” of most Bibles. His earthly ministry was to Israel and Israel alone. Putting forth the idea that the sermon on the mount is for believers today is as preposterous as saying God wants me to build an Ark as the world will soon be flooded.

Number 2: Romans 13 does clearly state that God does in fact have “ministers of wrath” ordained to execute vengeance upon evil doers. HOWEVER; in the same context the verses CLEARLY state that these ministers are “NOT a terror to good works, but to evil”. When “ministers” become a terror to good works they MUST be resisted.

In Romans 13, like in Romans 12, Paul is describing the IDEAL… the ideal government (13) and the ideal believer (12). This is what we as believers in and out of government are to aspire to. It is not what we are, especially the unsaved and unlearned of scripture. The notion that we should bow to all government authority, no matter what, is an absolutely polluted scriptural idea used by satan to brainwash and control people who do not read the Bible God gave them. If that were the case, we should bow to satan himself as he is IN AUTHORITY over the earth right now. And there you have it…

My heritage is Arabic. In Arab culture, the absolute worst thing you can call a man is a dog.
There is a large difference between American style fascism and the German style of the mid-20th century, and that is this: It seems to me that the Nazis had an actual philosophy behind what they were doing. their movement called for the perfection of man by better breeding, thus the whole master race thing. In America, we have no such driving philosophy. What is driving American culture toward the abyss is fear. The result is the same, but it does explain a few major differences, such as the lack of a coherent movement or overt goals in the American style fascism.
But in both cases, the mainstream Christians are dead set behind these movements. And that is a frightening place to be.

I test my interpretation of "Obey the powers that be" by:

1). Acts 4 where Peter and John state it's better to obey God than men.
2). Daniel 3 where the 3 Hebrews refused to worship the Graven Image as commanded.
3). Daniel 6 where Daniel refused the command to pray only to the head of government.
4). Exodus 1 where the Hebrew midwives disobeyed the command to kill Hebrew male babies as they were born.
5). In the book of Matthew, Herod sent his soldiers to kill all the male children less than 2 years of age in the village. Would I have helped the soldiers kill the children? Would I have just shut my door and minded my own business? Or, would I have picked up a sword and actively helped the parents and children escape; killing a soldier, if need be?

I wonder what Elijah would say about this? It's not as if he was an active supporter of "government" (Ahab and Jezebel). In fact, most or virtually all of the prophets were not overly supportive of "government".
