Will, thanks for the encouragement. It's not fun but on the flip side I can honestly say I have never been as relaxed, or feel as free, as I am right now.

To not have a gun to my head to "perform" to someone else's expectations is something I have never experienced in all my life. So its allowed me to contemplate that maybe God has something special in store for the family and myself.

The kinds of opportunities that this jobless "sabbatical" allow don't come around often in life, so I'm really looking for answers.

And, on another note, just how would I drop you an email message? I can't find any means of sending my thoughts but through this blog!.... hahahah!

Actually, I always looked at Troi as a bit of a buttinski, but she was easy on the eyes. We could go back and forth for quite some time about the babes of Star Trek, but I won't. There were several that were very attractive, and a few of them still look good even at their current age.

The first time I met Grace Lee Whitney I told her I'd had a crush on her since I was 13. On Sept. 8, 1966, I watched the very first episode of TOS (I was 13 years old) and have been a pretty obsessed fan ever since. I'm pretty sure I fell in love with Yeoman Rand that year. Anyway, there sure were some great women on that show, and I appreciate your devotion to your wife.

Given the tone of your comments about Marina Sirtis, am I correct in assuming that you are deep in the Plak Tow?

Whether we're discussing Ms. Sirtis or her dramatic doppleganger, Counselor Troi, the individual in question is quite lovely. But she is easily eclipsed by the sight or even the thought of Korrin; it is as if we sought to find Aldebaran while that faint and distant star shared the noonday sky with our own Sun.

(Besides, as a single man I was much more partial to Beverly Crusher/Gates McFadden, anyway.)

I saw the video of the woman trying to get to the hospital the other night on Bill O'Reilly's show. (It was an accident, I didn't mean to be watching him.) I was going to see if I could find a link to it and send it to you, but someone beat me to it. Another fine example of a LEO (not a peace officer) abusing citizens.

But my main reason for writing was your comment re Counselor Troi. Are you having vision problems? I had my picture taken with Marina Sirtis at the opening of Star Trek: The Experience in Las Vegas about 9 years ago (I took the tour/ride with a group of Paramount and Hilton executives), and she is even better looking in person - especially when her hair is straight. Perhaps a good opthamologist?

Dr., I'm so sorry to hear that you've been left jobless. It's not a whole lot of fun, is it?

The really weird thing is that although I'm nominally unemployed (the work I do for pay is on a contract/freelance basis), I've been working as much as I did before the JBS fired me.

It's been a blessing, in an ironic way, to be working out of home even in our present circumstances. Korrin is doing much better, but she's still bedridden quite a bit. So I can help the boys get off to school and take care of the girls while Korrin gets the rest she still needs.

Here's something weird, followed by a praise note.

Because of Korrin's repeated hospitalization, we get regular visits from a person called a "counselor." When I first heard this was going to happen, I sarcastically quipped: "So Deanna Troi makes house calls?"

Well, oddly enough, our counselor Penny looks A LOT like Deanna Troi. (For the record, I don't find Troi particularly attractive.)

A couple of months ago, Penny showed up and suggested that we sign up for State grants to pay our rent, buy groceries, and pay for auto repairs. "Your family will certainly qualify," she said. "Why don't I just get you started?"

I gestured for Penny to come close enough to hear me whisper my reply:

"I really appreciate that, but unless we're facing absolute destitution, I really can't do that."

She nodded her understanding, and repeated that the grants "are there if you need them."

"Great," I thought to myself. "Is this principle, or merely self-aggrandizing pride?"

Now -- here comes the REALLY COOL part of this story.

NOT A DAY LATER I was contacted by a couple of very good friends from Texas who, in a gesture of sacrificial love, sent our family enough money to get us through that month and most of the next, a period during which I wasn't able to make any money as a contractor and freelancer.

As a believer, I know better than to consider that to be a coincidence. God is good.

Will, on a positive note, bravo for the format changes. I was Mr. "anonymous" who hoped you'd look at the changes as being for the better and I can see you took it seriously. Congrats! It'll only mean more comments, and more back and forth amongst us all, and thats ALL GOOD!

BTW... I've recently joined the ranks of the "unwashed" unemployed this past month... hangin around the house and just bumming. It feels really weird.

Rush, the first cerebral rock band I hooked onto back in the late 70's. It wasn't a "chick" band because you actually had to think!

Still, back to topic, well just how many more taserings have to happen? Lord! Seems every other day they're zapping somebody for the slightest reasons and even gunning them while in the throes of agony.

If someone cause me to drop my child like that I might be up on assault charges for beating the clowns who tasered me to a pulp.
