I think you're exaggerating a bit, though, on LDS church leadership. The Church's scriptures say that polygamy is wrong unless otherwise commanded by the Lord, just like the Bible implies e.g. Abraham and Jacob (good) or David and Solomon (bad). These people are nothing like mormons! Sure, they aren't spontaneous generation, but they aren't members of the church at all, or anywhere near it.

I doubt the President of the Church was supporting a Waco Massacre when he said what he said, but it does seem right that people pay for their crimes according to the law. That can be interpreted lots of ways.

Again, concerning the LDS Church's connection with FLDS. I served a mission for the LDS church, and met a member of a fundamentalist group. When we taught her basic Church doctrines, they were TOTALLY new to her. These people wouldn't know a Mormon ifthey stared one in the face. They're pretty different.

I know you want to set the record straight on the government, but don't stretch the record on LDS Church Policies

Excellent piece. It would be nice if some of the LDS leadership would read it. For my part, I would be a little less severe on them regarding the FLDS church. If the official LDS church wants to say that, all other things being equal, the one thing that will disqualify a person from being Mormon is practicing plural marriage, then that's their privilege. It does require some hermeneutical yoga, however, to maintain that position!

hey,

interesting article. i liked the part about the jello belt. i had no idea that this was a stereotype. reminds me of my uncle who joked that a hispanic who wanted to buy my aunt's car would put flames on it (one of many stereotypes i've learned)...but i digress! i don't forsee a waco style raid here. these folks got control of the local police. and from what you describe, it sounds as if if the feds did go in, it would be april 19th for them, but in 1775. but! being that certain men are as wicked as they are, it would be "a shame" for....let's say...a bio attack to take place. or should i say a bio-test?!

i know there is nothing new under the sun, but i just wish king solomon had left us a book called, "the dirty book of tricks by kings...for dummies."

lastly, i think i have a new term for the geographical area that describes the number of military installations extending from just inside maryland and ends in ft jackson, south carolina..."the ammo belt"!
