I shot the target below with a .30/06 at 100 yards sitting on a stool with my elbows braced on the bench. Not particularly good shooting, but the strange thing is the sideways bullet hole at 5 o'clock. The ammo I was shooting, some military surplus that I got at $5 for 22 rounds, had bullets with pointed tips, just as you see below. I shot ten rounds at this target. Count 'em. I also shot at some 50 yard targets. My guess is that one of those shots bounced off the ground and tumbled in to this target. It was not just a tear in the target. A hole of this shape went all the way through the backstop to which the target was stapled. Click on the image for a higher res version.
