To: The Administrator of the Federal Aviation Administration, The Secretary of the Department of Transportation, The Senate of the United States of America, The House of Representatives of the United States of America, The President of the Airline Pilots Association and the President of the United States of America.

We, the undersigned citizens of the United States of America, being aware of the acts committed by foreign terrorists against air commerce and the United States of America on September 11, 2001, recognize certain laws and regulations could have prevented such acts, make the following statements:

1. Terrorists were allowed access to US air carriers engaged in peaceful air commerce under the laws and regulations established by the Federal Aviation Administration and the United States Congress.

2. The Federal Government is not capable of preventing such Terrorist acts by legislation.

3. The acts of terrorism caused the deaths of an undetermined number of American lives and caused billions of dollars damage to American interests.

4. Failure to decisively address the issue of airline security and safety will only embolden and enable similar events to occur in air commerce.

5. That the arming of airline pilots is a suitable and cost Effective method of satisfactorily ensuring the safety and security of air commerce.

6. That recruitment and training of pilots in armed intervention, conflict resolution, use of deadly force and other training deemed necessary could begin immediately.

7. That urgent action by the above named individual agencies and offices are required at the earliest possible date.

8. Airline pilots occupy one of the most respected careers. Is one of the highest educated workforces in the US, and are already demonstrating the responsibility and ability to conduct themselves in a manner acceptable to be a law enforcement officer. In addition, airline pilots are trained and conditioned to deal with stressful environments.

9. Airline pilots are recognized by law to be the final authority in the safe operation of their aircraft.

10. That the American people demand immediate action in response to future acts of terrorism by enacting legislation or emergency orders to allow airline pilots the carriage of arms in air commerce as a deterrent to this threat.

In regard to the above petition, time is of the essence. America and the flying public is held hostage by the uncertainty of the future. Our legislators in Washington are facing many decisions regarding our safety, and their decisions will need to be confirmed in a timely manner.
