PoliticsWe only have 96 months left to save the planetSubmitted by Bill St. Clair on Mon, 2009-07-20 10:24.
John Stossel's Take - Prince Charles has joined algore's crusade to save the planet for the rich and famous. Quoting Mark Steyn quoting The Independent: "Capitalism and consumerism have brought the world to the brink of economic and environmental collapse, the Prince of Wales has warned... And in a searing indictment on capitalist society, Charles said we can no longer afford consumerism and that the 'age of convenience' was over."
He then got in his limo and was driven to his other palace. add new comment | quote | 688 reads

Why I Will Not RUN a TrubancSubmitted by Bill St. Clair on Sun, 2009-07-19 07:00.

A number of the bills those Congress critters have passed require that they be informed of every financial transaction in the world, so that they can steal part of it, in "taxes". It’s Alive!Submitted by Bill St. Clair on Fri, 2009-07-17 07:40.
Thomas L. Knapp at Center for a Stateless Society - concerning the mating ritual of Sonia Sotomayor's confirmation as a justice of the supreme court. Over and over, in so many ways, she must be induced to state that her dearest wish, her goal in life, is to “apply the law to the facts.” When she so announces, Democratic Senators respond with self-satisfied smiles, Republicans with raised eyebrows signifying disbelief, each the better to arouse the constituencies with which they hope to mate (or, more cynically, which they hope to screw).
In truth, given the size of the Democratic majority, only one question ever stood between Judge Sotomayor and confirmation. Her answer to that question — “will you at all times and in every respect proclaim and uphold the legitimacy of our power?” — was known long before the hearings began, else she’d have never been appointed in the first place. add new comment | quote | 407 reads

Two Non-DisagreementsSubmitted by Bill St. Clair on Thu, 2009-07-16 13:27.
Larken Rose - an explanation of two "disagreements" that some people think Mr. Rose and Stefan Molyneux had in their July 4 speeches. Self defense is always moral, whether your attacker is from the gummint or not, but it isn't always practical. And this: Personally, I think a vastly preferable method of "national security" in a free society (which probably wouldn't call itself a "nation") is assassination. By the tyrant rules, the various megalomaniacs often send pawn to kill pawn, leaving both clubs of control freaks intact. I think every time any "government" starts a war, the most effective, and most moral approach, is to send in a few assassins to blow the "leader's" damn head off. And if his successor continues down the same path, do it again. If THEY were the ones risking everything by their megalomaniacal designs, they might think twice. Right now, they have nothing to lose, since the club of world tyrants has an OPEN agreement to not kill each other, but to only kill each other's pawns.

Mandatory Swine Flu Vaccination AlertSubmitted by Bill St. Clair on Wed, 2009-07-15 06:11.
Stephen Lendman at GlobalResearch.ca - Mr. Lendman thinks that the World Health Organization will soon make it mandatory for member countries to immunize against the swine flu. Even though the vaccine is experimental and will likely do more harm than the flu. I will not immunize myself, nor will I allow anyone to immunize my children. I recommend that you do likewise. It's crucial to understand that these vaccines are experimental, untested, toxic and extremely dangerous to the human immune system. They contain squalene-based adjuvants that cause a host of annoying to life-threatening autoimmune diseases. They must be avoided, even if mandated. It's also known that vaccines don't protect against diseases they're designed to prevent and often cause them. They should be banned but proliferate anyway because they're so profitable, and if globally mandated to the greatest extent ever.

Tax Evaders Guilty of Plot to Kill FedsSubmitted by Bill St. Clair on Tue, 2009-07-14 06:55.
Associated Press via CBSNews.com - Ed and Elaine Brown have been convicted "on all counts of plotting to kill federal agents". It is now a crime to plan to defend yourself from invaders of your own home, if those invaders happen to be wearing fancy uniforms, funny hats, and shiny badges. I'm only sad that they didn't manage to kill a few of those goons. They're being treated as if they had. Sentencing scheduled for September 3. Ed and Elaine Brown, both in their 60s, face a mandatory minimum 30-year prison sentence on one charge alone.

50 Ways To Leave LeviathanSubmitted by Bill St. Clair on Tue, 2009-07-14 06:26.
The Hunter at The Price of Liberty - this is a reprint from many years back, as you can tell by the broken links, but they're still good. 11. Attend a solemn public appearance of a political candidate or public figure advocating we sacrifice freedom for security. Choose your event with some care, you will see why in a moment. When they get to some point in their presentation or speech where they say something really ridiculous with a straight face and everyone in the audience is nodding stupidly and politely applauding, start laughing. Do not stop until they throw you out. It is not as hard as it used to be… either the laughing or the getting thrown out. Be warned that at least in theory you can probably be prosecuted for some folderol or other, but it might be worth it to get on the stand and say "I’m sorry, your honor, I found his views hysterically funny. You mean he was SERIOUS?" Heckling they are used to and can deal with, laughing at them they seem to prefer to sweep under the rug.
35. Most "guides to activism" I have ever read advise that when you are writing a letter to the editor you should be polite, persausive, and respectful so you don’t come across as an unreasonable nut. I used to believe that, until I became familiar with the work of L Neil Smith, and lately Jay Severin’s radio show. Both of them taught me an important lesson – "unreasonable nuts" get press. Pick your target carefully, and intelligently make vicious fun of the stupidity of their position. Make clever jokes at their expense – send in a letter to the editor in verse if you are good enough to pull it off. Your goal here is to make the submission SO juicy and SO over the top that the editors just can not help but want to use it. The best part is, quite often what THEY think is crazy a lot of their readers will nod and say "about time this rag printed something sensible". 37. Buy gold, silver, or other precious metals. They are pretty, they are practical, and they really wow the ladies. My mom and sister are STILL on about some ten ounce silver bars I had several years ago. They were horrified when I explained I bought them to cast into bullets and asked them if they knew where I could get a good deal on black masks. Like their idea of having jewelry made out of them was any more practical… add new comment | quote | 345 reads

Climate change: The sun and the oceans do not lieSubmitted by Bill St. Clair on Mon, 2009-07-13 08:57.
Chistopher Booker at The Telegraph - a scientific counter-consensus to the human-induced global warming lie is beginning to win hearts and minds with at least some legislators. Cool. We still have a long way to go before that Copenhagen treaty is agreed in December, and with China, India and 128 other countries still demanding trillions of dollars as the price of their co-operation, the prospect of anything but a hopelessly fudged agreement looks slim. But even a compromise could inflict devastating damage on our own economic future – all for a theory now shot so full of holes that its supporters are having to suppress free speech to defend it.

Virgin-Americans Vow Fight Against Cap-and-Trade's Blood Sacrifice AmendmentSubmitted by Bill St. Clair on Fri, 2009-07-10 06:11.
Iowahawk - a glorious, satirical romp with the cap and trade bill. [vanderboegh] In order to secure the votes of wavering Democrats, House leaders Nancy Pelosi and Henry Waxman inserted several last minute amendments to the legislation, including provisions for national oxygen rationing, witch burnings, dousings, and phrenology research. But the one that has seemingly stoked a grassroots backlash is the controversial Sexually Inexperienced Citizen Environmental Volunteer Amendment. The wording of the amendment calls for all American virgins over the age of 21 to register with the Selective Sacrifice Board, for possible use as victims in nationally televised vivisections intended to "supplicate the Earth-Spirits."

THC initiates brain cancer cells to destroy themselvesSubmitted by Bill St. Clair on Thu, 2009-07-09 20:11.
WorldHealth.net - more evidence of the anti-cancer properties of cannabis hemp. THC, the active ingredient in marijuana, causes brain cancer cells to undergo a process called autophagy in which cells feed upon themselves, according to a study conducted by Guillermo Velasco and colleagues at Complutense University in Spain. Using mice designed to carry human brain cancer tumors, the researchers found that the growth of the tumors shrank when the animals received THC. The study also involved two patients with glioblastoma multiforme, a highly aggressive form of brain cancer. Both patients had been enrolled in a clinical trial designed to test THC's potential as a cancer therapy. The researchers used electron microscopes to analyze brain tissue taken before and after a 26- to 30-day THC treatment regimen. They found that THC eliminated the cancer cells while leaving healthy cells intact. In addition, in what they described as a "novel discovery," the specific signalling route by which the autophagy process unfolds was isolated.

The Most Powerful Military Force in the World is the American PeopleSubmitted by Bill St. Clair on Tue, 2009-07-07 22:13.
Jeffrey Grupp at Restore the Republic - Mr. Grupp thinks Americans have nothing whatsoever to fear from the New World Order, as long as we don't give up our guns, and as long as we use them when necessary. I hope he's right. [militant] America is the only Jeffersonian militia in existence today, and the American public is the largest, most heavily armed military in the world. In actuality, the entire world is defenseless to it – even the New World Order. A four million person army could invade the Atlantic shore tomorrow, and that military would certainly cause some initial chaos, but soon after, it would find out that it is drastically outnumbered and doomed to total extinction, if the American militia simply got up off the couch chose that to be their fate.
... Now, let’s expand this idea that the human populace is actually in control of the world in order to discuss the New World Order. And let me get right to the point: just like the “person in charge” really has no control, as we just saw, analogously, the New World Order has no power at all whatsoever, period, end-of-story. The New World Order, and any “government authority” of any sort, only exists because we humans wrongly believe that humans need the them, and because we have been tricked into wrongly believing that the world is setup for you to be primarily dependent on people other than yourself (almost a “crazy notion” to many). add new comment | quote | 474 reads

WTF?: Starting to really wonder about Lew Rockwell’s BlogSubmitted by Bill St. Clair on Tue, 2009-07-07 18:00.
Paleo Pat at Political Byline - looks like Lew Rockwell's strategy of printing non-anarchist essays snagged a state-lover. When Lew showed his true nature, anti-state, this person thought he was being anti-American. Hey, Pat. I love my country, but I hate your government. And so does Lew. When you're ready to stop pointing guns at people over every little thing, we can talk. But I'm not going to close comments on my blog, like you did on yours. Afraid of a little debate, eh? 5 comments | quote | 554 reads

It's Not Just That Global Warming Is Fake. What Matters Is Why This Fakery Is Being Promoted.Submitted by Bill St. Clair on Tue, 2009-07-07 12:55.
Gary North - if you have half a brain, you know by now that human-induced global warming is a hoax, a very expensive hoax. Mr. North shows that it's also a very dangerous hoax. It's the last gasp of the socialists, who want to control everything, and, though they won't admit it and probably don't realize it, destroy civilization in the process. [lew] Back in the 1970's, the bugaboo was the coming ice age, as this Time Magazine article promoted. Not to be outdone, Newsweek got on board. The article warned: "Climatologists are pessimistic that political leaders will take any positive action to compensate for the climatic change, or even to allay its effects." Want more examples? Click here.
It, too, was based on junk science. It, too, had the same solution: government control over the economy. The goal never changes: government management over the economy. The justification has changed. If the voters won't accept control over their lives on the basis of one brand of junk science, maybe they will accept another. As they used to say in the Nixon Administration: "Let's run this up the flagpole and see if anyone salutes." Socialism's Last Stand The global warming movement is not about global warming. It is about the creation of an international political control arrangement by which bureaucrats who favor socialism can gain control over the international economy. This strategy was stated boldly by economist Robert Heilbroner in 1990. Heilbroner, the multi-millionaire socialist and author of the best-selling history of economic thought, The Worldly Philosophers, wrote the manifesto for these bureaucrats. He did this in an article, "Reflections: After Communism," published by The New Yorker (Sept. 10, 1990). add new comment | quote | 318 reads

Cory Doctorow is blogging his new book, Makers, at Tor.com. He'll post new installments three times a week (MWF) for 81 weeks. The book, and Creative Commons text, will be released 2/3 of the way through that serialization, on November 10. Doctorow is the author of Little Brother. I haven't read through the first installment of Makers yet, but it's queued up in my browser. ( categories: Politics )
Preparing for civil unrestSubmitted by Bill St. Clair on Tue, 2009-07-07 06:39.
Claire Wolfe at Backwoods Home Magazine - Claire defines "civil unrest", talks about its likelihood, and gives a few ideas about how to avoid and survive it. [rationalreview] Here are my definitions of levels of civil unrest and a little bit about how they might affect us:
LEVEL ONE: The lowest level of civil unrest is when people turn on their own neighborhoods—as happened during the race riots of the 1960s and the Rodney King riots in Los Angeles. Level One civil unrest can be deadly and destructive, but primarily to people who live, work, or must travel in the immediate area. Level One unrest is spontaneous, Dionysian, is confined to a narrow geographical zone where the protestors live. Police response may be harsh, but it's localized. Unless you're in the middle of it, you're unaffected. LEVEL TWO: Level Two civil unrest may also be focused on a single area. But in this case, rioters or protesters have deliberately targeted a business district, a facility, a transportation system, or an organization to impose maximum disruption. One example: the World Trade Organization protests in Seattle in 1999; young people with violence in mind and rage in their hearts attacked an entire downtown, affecting hundreds of businesses and tens of thousands of workers who hardly knew what hit them. Another example: This spring, protesters in Thailand shut down the Bangkok airport, affecting who knows how many individuals and businesses. Level Two unrest is usually planned or semi-planned. The target is chosen deliberately. Although still focused in one area, Level Two can disrupt normal life and business in a whole region or country. LEVEL THREE: Level Three comes when mass unrest or authoritarian crackdown causes disruption at state or regional level. Then, no matter what the original cause or location of the trouble, everyone in the region is affected. Effects might include travel restrictions, random ID checks, mass arrests, food and fuel rationing, controls on money and banking, roadblocks, and other harsh "emergency" restrictions. LEVEL FOUR: Level Four is Level Three—but on a national or even international scale. It's martial law. If things ever get this bad, it's likely that the government itself will be a far bigger threat to everyone's well being than whatever the original cause of the clampdown was. And of course, any level of civil unrest can lead to laws, regulations, and harsher police policies that end up affecting everybody in the long run. ( categories: Politics )
Marc Emery’s “Farewell Tour” comes to Calgary; libertarian leader prepares for jailSubmitted by Bill St. Clair on Tue, 2009-07-07 05:18.
The Shotgun Blog of WesternStandard.ca - Marc Emery has begun his tour of Canada in advance of pleading guilty to US drug nazi charges against him for selling seeds. Marc Emery was in Calgary on Sunday night on the first stop in his “Farewell Tour” that will take the marijuana legalization activist across the country to say “good-bye” to his supporters before his extradition to the U.S. on charges related to selling marijuana seeds.
... In May, Emery announced he would be pleading guilty to his charges in order to secure a deal which would see him face 5 years in a U.S. jail, and see his co-defendants, Michelle Rainey and Greg Williams, stay out of jail. Emery told the Western Standard that he expects to be incarcerated by September and is working to get his business affairs in order. His wife, Jodie Emery, will take over Cannabis Culture and the B.C. Marijuana Party bookstore. A comment from "Dave": I would put a bullet in my brain before i would hand myself over to the US authorities. The US is the modern Roman Empire. The Fifth Reich. The nazis won WW2, they just changed their letterhead.

Industrial Hemp: Bill Passes Oregon Legislature, Heads for Governor's DeskSubmitted by Bill St. Clair on Fri, 2009-07-03 06:01.
Drug War Chronicle - Oregon will soon become the ninth state to legalize industrial hemp. It still remains illegal under federal law, to protect Hearst's forests and du Pont's bleach. The states that have okayed hemp production are Hawaii, Kentucky, Maine, Maryland, Montana, North Dakota, Vermont and West Virginia. North Dakota has even issued licenses to would-be hemp farmers for the past two years, but the federal prohibition has prevented any hemp planting.

QuotesEvery man, woman, and responsible child has an unalienable individual, civil, Constitutional, and human right to obtain, own, and carry, openly or concealed, any weapon -- rifle, shotgun, handgun, machinegun, anything -- any time, any place, without asking anyone's permission. -- L. Neil Smith Reread that pesky first clause of the Second Amendment. It doesn't say what any of us thought it said. What it says is that infringing the right of the people to keep and bear arms is treason. What else do you call an act that endangers "the security of a free state"? And if it's treason, then it's punishable by death. I suggest due process, speedy trials, and public hangings. -- L. Neil Smith Based on 253 journal articles, 99 books, 43 government publications, and some of its own empirical work, the panel couldn't identify a single gun control regulation that reduced violent crime, suicide or accidents. -- John Lott, commenting on the National Academy of Sciences report (PDF) on gun control laws Zero Aggression Principle ("Zap") "A libertarian is a person who believes that no one has the right, under any circumstances, to initiate force against another human being, or to advocate or delegate its initiation. Those who act consistently with this principle are libertarians, whether they realize it or not. Those who fail to act consistently with it are not libertarians, regardless of what they may claim." -- L. Neil Smith Formerly called the "Non-Aggression Principle", or "NAP" Why Did It Have to be... Guns? Make no mistake: all politicians -- even those ostensibly on the side of guns and gun ownership -- hate the issue and anyone, like me, who insists on bringing it up. They hate it because it's an X-ray machine. It's a Vulcan mind-meld. It's the ultimate test to which any politician -- or political philosophy -- can be put. If a politician isn't perfectly comfortable with the idea of his average constituent, any man, woman, or responsible child, walking into a hardware store and paying cash -- for any rifle, shotgun, handgun, machinegun, anything -- without producing ID or signing one scrap of paper, he isn't your friend no matter what he tells you. If he isn't genuinely enthusiastic about his average constituent stuffing that weapon into a purse or pocket or tucking it under a coat and walking home without asking anybody's permission, he's a four-flusher, no matter what he claims. What his attitude -- toward your ownership and use of weapons -- conveys is his real attitude about you. And if he doesn't trust you, then why in the name of John Moses Browning should you trust him? -- L. Neil Smith "Tell me," I was once asked, "What do you think about gun control? Give me the short answer." To which I replied, "If you try to take our firearms we will kill you." -- Mike Vanderboegh Also from The Atlanta Declaration: ... like going to the bathroom, breathing, eating, sleeping, or making love, it turns out that self-defense is a bodily function one cannot safely or effectively delegate to a second party. -- L. Neil Smith This does not mean that "Marijuana should be available by prescription." It means that morphine sulfate should be available in five pound bags at the supermarket for a couple of bucks, like sugar... but probably in a different aisle, to avoid confusion. -- Vin Suprynowicz The state can only survive as long as a majority is programmed to believe that theft isn't wrong if it's called taxation or asset forfeiture or eminent domain, that assault and kidnapping isn't wrong if it's called arrest, that mass murder isn't wrong if it's called war. -- Bill St. Clair Monthly ArchivesTTLB |
