Time to Pay the Protection Racket

From The Federalist:
"It's tax time. I know this because I'm staring at documents that make no sense to me, no matter how many beers I drink. ...I'm not the only taxpayer who has no idea what he's sending to the IRS. This year, only 28 percent of all Americans will prepare their own tax returns, according to a voice in my head that invents accurate-sounding statistics. Why can't Americans do their own taxes? Because the federal Tax Code is out of control, that's why. It's gigantic and insanely complex, and it gets worse all the time. Nobody has ever read the whole thing. IRS workers are afraid to go into the same ROOM with it. They keep it locked in the basement, and once a day, they open the door, heave in a live taxpayer ... then slam the door shut, before the screams start. As a result, we have reached the point where even the IRS doesn't know what the Tax Code says. Last year, the Treasury Department discovered -- I am still not making this up -- that the IRS paid out more than $30 million to people who filed for the slavery tax credit. Yes! Thirty million dollars! Only guess what? It turns out there IS no slavery tax credit! Whoops! ...The question is: What can we, as citizens, do to reform our tax system? As you know, under our three-branch system of government, the tax laws are created by: Satan. But he works through the Congress, so that's where we must focus our efforts. Here's my proposal, which is based on the TV show Survivor: We put the entire Congress on an island. All the food on this island is locked inside a vault, which can be opened only by an ordinary American taxpayer named Bob. Every day, the congresspersons are given a section of the Tax Code, which they must rewrite so that Bob can understand it. If he can, he lets them eat that day; if he can't, he doesn't. Or, he can give them food either way. It doesn't matter. The main thing is, we never let them off the island." -- Dave Barry

From Chuck Muth's News & Views:

"In the United States, the Left calls the U.S. tax code, 'redistribution of income.' In Iraq, the Left calls the redistribution of income, 'looting.' This is an example of a difference without a distinction." -- Rich Galen

I sent the following for publication on the Unknown News dialog page.

I find it interesting that when I said "End socialism now", Helen and Harry and "Nancy", whoever that is, thought I meant that there should be laws making socialism illegal and providing penalties for practicing it. Why is that? I stated very clearly that in most cases I don't believe that there should be a law and that if you propose a law, you are asking the police to shoot and kill anyone who refuses to go along. I want the concept of socialism to disappear from the face of the earth. That will happen when a large majority of the population learn that socialism doesn't work. Ever. For anything. When a large portion of the population tell their elected representatives in no uncertain terms, "If you steal my money for your socialist purposes, not only will you not be re-elected, you will be tried for the real crimes of conspiracy to commit mass robbery, assault, and kidnapping (which is exactly the proper name for imprisoning someone for violating an unjust law), and you will be put in jail for a very long time."

Public servants have different responsibilities than you and me. They, like naturalized citizens, but unlike natural born citizens, have sworn to uphold and defend the Constitution. One of the big reasons our government has grown so out of control is that we have not held them to their oaths. Taking a sworn position of power and then breaking your oath is a crime. Heretofor it has not been prosecuted. It should be.

The Constitution is a legal cage that is supposed to severely limit the domain in which laws may be made. It has ceased to function that way. America is no longer a constitutional republic. It is now a fascist pseudo- democracy. There is only one major political party in America, the Boot on Your Neck (BOYN) Party. It has a fascist wing, the Republicans, and a communist wing, the Democrats. I don't believe the Libertarian Party will do much better. Should they ever gain enough support to actually affect government, they will become as corrupt as the BOYNers. The only thing that can save us is to take away the fedgov's power by reducing their budget by a factor of at least 100. A couple of good starts would be the elimination of the income tax, the abolition of the Federal Reserve, and a constitutional amendment forbidding the federal government from ever borrowing money. And, of course, as I've said before, all of the federal handouts (social security, medicare, medicaid, welfare, education funding, highway funding) have to end. The maintenance of a navy, and, by extension, an air force, to protect our borders, is one of the few valid functions of the federal government. The Constitution allows no standing army.

There probably isn't any way to cause this to happen from within the current system. It is corrupt beyond repair. Fortunately, there isn't really a need to do anything about it. It will crash under its own weight. Unfortunately, this will be accompanied by a wholescale collapse of the economy, a depression that will make the Great Depression look like a picnic. But that's the price of socialism, the price of living on credit and stolen money. If enough people learn this in time, we may avoid some of the pain, but I doubt it.

To Angry Annie: I provided a link to a very good explanation of why the first amendment's establishment clause has nothing to do with the legislation-from-the-bench concept of "separation of church and state". The Constitution contains no such concept. For some reason you want me to paraphrase Dr. Paul. He has said it better than I ever will. You're not my high school teacher, so I won't waste my time by restating what he has said so well. Most of the text at http://thomas.loc.gov/cgi-bin/query/z?c108:H.R.1547: is analysis. Only the last few paragraphs actually make any legal changes.
